Brazil
Vida Nova Association, the Brazilian partner for SmallWorld, works with children with disabilities. Funds received by Vida Nova in 2014 supported the special education of 15 children. Progress reports were not received yet by the NGO as they are still in the yearly evaluation process.
Colombia
Salas de Asilo. Salas de Asilo is a very ol d NGO that works on child protection and education for 112 years now. Through the funds delivered by SmallWorld in delivered protection and after-schoolchildren from low-income families.
Renacer Associa tion. The main focus through Renacer association was enabling the beneficiaries to make a leap from poverty, delinquency and sexual exploitation into independence and productivity. Life coaching and vocational training was catered for 14 young men and women in distress. Some of the beneficiaries were suffering from social and psychological distress, thus the first step was to cater professional psychological support. After successful rehabilitation, the youth were enrolled in technical schools, music institutes, and one beneficiary enrolled as a professional player in football club.Mexico
DIF Torreon is an NGO working on the welfare of families around Mexico. In April 2013, DIF report stated: “We recently made a meeting with the SmallWorld Children Program and their families. Now, they show more integration and better communication among the family. They are so happy and proud to be in the program.” This statement shows the successful product of our joint efforts. The beneficiaries of the SmallWorld Child Program are using the donation to enroll in school year after year, provide some food for the family, and purchase school supplies. All 37 children adopted by the program are showing great progress in terms of education, discipline, and cooperation. The greatest example from Mexico would be the girl MA DE LUZ DIAZ GUERRA (Lucy), who was once picking up trash to sell it and help her mother. Now Lucy goes to school, has dreams; she wants to be a doctor and help others.
Panama
Our 2011 partner in panama is an international non-profit that supports children to become resilient, productive citizens by delivering education and coaching. SmallWorld’s grants helped deliver a socio-emotional program to 1,300 children in the fourth and fifth grades of 9 schools located in at-risk areas in Chorrillo, San Felipe, Santa Ana, and Barraza in Panama City.
USA
Alex’s Lemonade Stand is an inspiring NGO who came out of an initiative by a 4-year-old girl who was diagnosed with Cancer. As she held her first Lemonade Stand, she raised 2000$ in one day. After the news of her initiative spread around the country, this small act became a national organization. In 2011, SmallWorld dedicated a fund to the NGO in order to support childhood cancer research.
Venezuela
Through “Fundacion UMA”, SmallWorld contributed to the education of 24 young beneficiaries. The programs at UMA foundation include: Formal Education, Recreational Activities, Hygiene and Grooming, Etiquette, Health, Sports, and Cultural activities. Through the diversity of activities UMA ensures the growth of its beneficiaries on all human levels: Cognitive, Physical and Psycho-Social. The education is catered based on the understanding of each student’s choices and direction in life; after all, children have the right to control their destiny. The education catered to these children helps in their social integration; UMA constantly organizes outings, cultural visits, as well as participation in different concerts and sports competitions.
Puerto Rico
The Ricky Martin foundation, known for its vast action to fight against Worst Forms of Child Labor and human trafficking received funds from SmallWorld in 2013; 10 children were enrolled into formal education and vocational training. The beneficiaries as stated by the November 2014 report “perform in accordance to project’s goals”. In brief, the children are enrolled not only in formal education programs, but also in artistic and cultural activities from percussions classes to museum visits, and dance.
